Ruby Cottage - Comments from our visitors

What a wonderful spot to call home while viewing many of the Cornwall sights. The cottage is a lovely mix of the past and present. Lots of character with all the modern conveniences.
Tom & Val, Canada, 22 September 07

This is our second visit to Ruby Cottage this year – it’s so nice to be able to see it in the sunshine and use the garden. We’ve had mostly lovely weather and been on the beach two days. It’s been good coming back, knowing the cottage is so well-equipped and comfortable. We’ve already recommended it to friends.
Tina & Mike (and Ruby the dog), Kent, 8 September 07

We’ve had a wonderful time at Ruby Cottage. Quaint and very comfortable. The weather has been brilliant…..I must say I’ll miss this lovely little cottage but I will relish the time that we have spent here. I’m going to spread the word and we both hope to revisit this brilliant little home.
Gemma & Mark, Suffolk, 1 September 2007

This is our second time saying at Ruby cottage and once more we have had a fabulous time. Mel has been really helpful. The shop is still selling everything and the HSD in the pub is just too good for me!

We have had a great exploring the area and the children learned to surf on Polzeath beach. The car park at Port Isaac is the first I’ve seen full of fish! Pasties from the local Spar were very popular with the children. Cottage excellent.
The Stanleys, Flintshire, 18 August 2007

A refreshing break of sunshine and hot temperatures! The cottage is lovely and is very well looked after.
Adele, Dave, Victoria and Freya, Warrington, 28 July 2007

To sum up this holiday, the accommodation is fantastic; a traditional English cottage accompanied with modern appliances and comfortably accommodated all four of us. Have said this, the locate of the cottage isn’t to the same standard, however there are plenty of nearby-by places to visit which more than makes up for this. Overall, an enjoyable holiday.
Luke, Ian, Julie and Lee, Nottingham, 21 July 2007

We really enjoyed our stay in Cornwall. We went surfing and visited many interesting places. The cottage was a wonderful little place to come back to and relax. It is very well kept and a nice place to stay.

Had some variable weather with flash floods!! But managed to fit lots in anyway. Recommend Tintagel, Eden Project and a dip in the sea. Cottage is lovely and a good place to be when the weather closes in. Definitely recommend local beer and fish & chips.
Holly and Shan, Manchester, 22 June 2007

We had a lovely time albeit a short stay. The weather has been mixed but it not stop us going about. Ruby Cottage is excellent – homely and well equipped. We will certainly come back if we travel this way again. Will highly recommend to friends and family.
Gem & Gina, London, 15 June 2007

Ruby Cottage is a real gem (sorry about the pun!) – we felt at home here as soon as we walked through the door. Molly enjoyed all of her walks especially the one along the Camel Trail which begins from the car park in Padstow. Another favourite was Daymer Bay where there is lots of firm, wet sand when the tide is out.
Shirley, Derek and Molley (the border terrier), Burton-on-Trent, 9 June 2007

A fantastic cottage, much bigger than we expected. The weather has been mixed all week but it was good to make use of the log fire a couple of times. Robert loved surging at Polzeath and body boarding at Fistral. Wasn’t too impressed by Padstow – it was very busy and every second shop/café, restaurant seems to belong to Rick Stein. A great stay – thanks.
Brian, Georgina & Robert, Leeds, 2 June 2007

This is such a lovely cottage to stay in! We were impressed with all the little touches that made us feel so welcome. Unfortunately the weather let us down slightly, is Delabole always covered in mist?? We had some great days at the Eden Project, Tintagel and Padstow.
Jono & Liz, Edinburgh, 19 May 2007

Thank you very much for making our short break. Lovely cottage, really well equipped and very comfortable. The place is ideal for walks.

We really had a fantastic stay in Ruby Cottage, it is a wonderful place to stay and so well equipped, just like being at home! Our son Ethan (16 months) finally learnt how to get down the step to the lounge feet first!! He has loved exploring the cottage and seems to have enjoyed it immensely. All in all we had a great week in perfect accommodation – will definitely recommend to others and hope to revisit ourselves in the future.
Andrew, Claire & Ethan (and Barry and Duke), Derbyshire, 11 February 2007

Weather very mixed, rain, sun and storm force winds. Despite this we had a lovely time and finally got to grips with lighting a log fire! The cottage is very well equipped and clean and we’ll definitely recommend it. Would really like to stay in the cottage in warmer weather. (Tina & Mike have already booked again for September!)
Tina, Mike and Jenny (and Ruby the dog), 13 January 2007

Thanks for making our short break so fantastic. The cottage is so well equipped, cosy and clean. We’ll definitely be back again. And thank you for allowing our dogs to stay – they had a marvellous time too.
Catherine, Gar, Rolo and Mia, 4 December 2006

We really enjoyed our week in Cornwall. The cottage had everything we needed and was good to get back to after some rather chilly dips in the sea. We return to Chiswick well rested and with all cobwebs blown away.
Francesca, Mikey, Dan and Theo, 22 October 2006

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed staying at Ruby Cottage last week. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and has a real welcoming, homely feel. We had a lovely week touring round and did some brilliant walks along the coast. The weather was very kind as well.
Many Thanks
Vivienne & John, East Grinstead, 7 October 2006

We’ve enjoyed a lovely week here at Ruby Cottage. It was our first visit to Cornwall and we certainly plan to return. Highlights included St Ives, the various cliff walks, the Beach at Rock and the village of Port Isaac. While we didn’t get a table at any of the Rick Stein places in Padstow, we would thoroughly recommend No 6, an excellent and friendly alternative, in Middle Street. Thank you for such a cosy cottage.
Vickie and Marcia, 16 September 2006

Thank you so much for the lovely holiday in Ruby Cottage. It is so well equipped and the kitchen is wonderful looking out onto the delightful garden. We’ve just had a fabulous last day spent in glorious sunshine and under a perfect sapphire blue sky. We went to Daymer Bay which is absolutely gorgeous and a must do for everyone. We walked along the coast path to Rock (eating wild blackberries on the way) and then took the ferry to Padstow. Sampled a Cornish Pasty from Chowdry’s (I think) bakery on the waterfront. No wonder they are award winning – delicious and very highly recommended. Back to Rock on the ferry and walked back to Daymer Bay along the beach, basking for an hour or so in the sun before going back reluctantly to the car. Another great day was spent at Lanhydrock, I’v visted countless historical homes, but this was the best ever and I can’t imagine it being surpassed. Port Isaac is a delight and one of my favourite towns. We did the walk from one of the cards in the box and thoroughly enjuoyed it. Stop off at St Minver and have a look round the beautiful church there – well worth taking the time. Boscastle, Tintagel and “over the other side”, Fowey and Mevagissey, are some of the other places we visited and thoroughly enjoyed. We were nearely put off going up to the castle at Tintagel when we saw the steep ascent and the height. However, with encouragement from a warden, we did it and were so pleased we did. It really wasn’t as bad as it looked so anyone visiting, please, please have a go. You won’t regret it! I could go on but my comfy bed beckons and we have a long drive tomorrow. There are so many things to do and places to see which we just haven’t had time for. This must mean that we have to come back again!!!
Brigitte and Irene, Leicester, 9 September 2006

Had a great time, cottage very good with everything we needed. We spent most of our time on the beaches at Trebarwith Strand and Daymar. Best beach though for us was at Tregardock if you want the walk. For pub lunches we tried the Mason’s Arms in Camelford and the Port William above the beach at Trebarwith. The village has everything we needed for a self catering holiday without the hustle and bustle of a tourist resort.
Owen, Pam, Meg and lab, 2 September 2006

Lovely to stay in a village not solely inhabited by tourists! Everything you could possibly need to feel like you have all your home comforts around. Blazing log fires each night – a bargain at £2 a bag from the garage. Lots of space for the children to play apart from the grown ups. Visited Tintangel Castle – fantastic walks and exciting cows! The “Camel Trail” from Wadebridge on the bikes is easy and very scenic and Padstow is a nice cosy town – highly recommended, wish we didn’t have to return the bikes at 5pm as we could have spent more time in Padstow and experience the ferry ride to Rock. Watched DVDs each night, have almost exhausted the Spar selection. Thank you for providing a “home from home” and a splendid place to recharge our batteries.
Becky, Oksana and Timur, Wimbledon, 26 August 2006

The cottage is lovely and very well equipped, furnished with taste and care. There is everything a guest may need! Staying here we had a great time, the place is ideal either for a walk (we went to Tintagel, a charming trail) or for visiting further places (Lanhydrock near Bodmin and Lizard Point are worth a visit, as well as Dartmoor in Devon). The leaflets and the maps are very useful, also we enjoyed the photo-book about Delabole: very interesting and amusing! We had a wonderful holiday, hope to come back soon.
Stefano, Rita, Cecilia, Livia, Claudia Nardini, Italy 19 August 2006

We had a very nice holiday here in Ruby Cottage! The cottage is very well equipped (only suggestion might be some extra pans that fit the cooking plates) and has a nice atmosphere. It is a very good base for touring, walking and cycling (although the road in front of the house is very busy in August) and we saw a lot of the beautiful surroundings Walking along the coastal path is marvellous: just birds, sea, the wind…. No cars or other intruding sounds! Great.
Juliet Wiggers, Holland, 5 to 19 August

Wonderful cottage, really well equipped and very comfortable. Surfs Up Polzeath is fantastic – we booked ahead for a week of lessons but you can just turn up. Port Isaac is great but park above the village. We bought some fish there – v. dodgy, had to throw it away! The pub at St Kew is fab, fantastic food. V. pretty and good for children. Wonderful walks around St Izzey, along the estuary, all very well marked. Camelford Bike Ride – great fun. We had a brilliant week –thank you!
Mike, Alison, Olivia, Charlie (Bud and Judi), 29 July 2006

Great location and cottage had everything we needed – comfortable, clean and spacious for a holiday cottage. Weather perfect! We would recommend a trip down to the Minack theatre (book tickets for a play first). Well worth the drive – fantastic coastline and spectacular backdrop of the ocean, for a play. Also enjoyed Trebarwith beach, Tintagel and the Eden Project. Saw huge basking sharks below the cliffs near Port Isaac. Excellent meal at the Millhouse Inn and also liked Steins fish and chips in Padstow. We’d love to come back.
Eileen & Hannah 22 July 2006

Wonderful cottage, excellent location. We had a wonderful week exploring, I would recommend Daymer Bay and the ferry from Rock to Padstow, even my 2 year old enjoyed the walk. Other places we visited and really enjoyed were Port Isaac and Tintagel and the Lappa Valley Railway. Would recommend Ruby Cottage to everyone.
Georgia, Jerry and Jasper, 2 July 2006

Cottage and garden are lovely, a great place to stay and explore North Cornwall and Devon. We visited Tingtagel, Boscastle and Port Isaac, Clovelly in Devon is worth a visit. Hartland Point has a lovely well stocked café and lovely view. It is also well worth taking the time to drive down to Lydford Gorge on the edge of Dartmoor – wear good walking shoes and allow a good 2-3 hours. If you have a dog that loves water, then he/she will be very happy! Hope to visit again soon.
Heidi, Martyn and Harvey (wirehaired pointer), 24 June 2006

We had such a lovely time! Oliver went surfing at Polzeath – great beach. Trebarwith Sands also fabulous and very near here. There is also a riding school nearby that do children’s activity days. Didn’t get to see everything, a week isn’t enough so will be back. Thank you for the box of leaflets and O.S. maps, they were very useful and we’ve added some more…. Everywhere we went was lovely. Restaurants were good!
John, Liz, Emily, Oliver Bourne, Chiswick 3 June 2006

Tanya and I could hardly believe the transformation to Ruby Cottage since our last visit. I didn’t realise it had so many rooms and was so Tardis-like! The kitchen is a wonderful place to sit in as it is so light and airy – and very well equipped.
Twice we visited Padstow via the ferry from Rock: on May Day with the crowded celebrations in the street and the day after to visit my brother. Had wonderful fish and chips at Steins on the seafront. Port Isaac was also a place we went to more than once. We loved the fish market there and gorged on giant fresh crabs and cream teas.
Trebarwith Strand was also a favourite place for us to go – using it as a base for walks up and down the coast path. Enjoyed watching the surfers who were out ‘til it was dark, bobbing up and down like seals. The Eden Project was certainly one of the high points of our trip – so much to see. We caught the Bulbmania special exhibition – fields up fields of rare and exotic tulips – faboulous!
Stuart & Tanya 30 April to 6 May 2006

We had a really good holiday at Ruby Cottage. We thought both the cottage (which was extremely well equipped) and garden were lovely and hope to go back again in the future. The weather was so good we had lunch in the garden - hope you won't mind but we pruned the roses!!
We visited two National Trust houses - Tintangel Post Office and Lanhydrock and have left info leaflets in the file in the kitchen. The second is a lovely day out - house has 50 rooms on show and extensive gardens.
Hope you have a successful summer season.
Jill and Alan, April 2006

Great accommodation - the beds looked so crisp and inviting after our long journey down. Dinner at The Millhouse Inn in Trebarwith was fab - the food and ambience were great even though it poured down outside.
If you fancy a good walk, then head for Tintagel and the castle - again, it absolutely poured down so we kept our visit very short - which was disappointing not only for us but for our dog Holly as well. Word of advice, don't take your car into Port Isaac you might get stuck - the road narrows as you descend and a few shop owners were getting quite upset with a car pulling a caravan that had got stuck! Very picturesque though and worth the trip - even though it was still raining! Delabole had everything we needed close by, a petrol station, a well stocked Spa (with a great selection of wines), a Post Office and a great Fish & Chip shop just down the road - great for visitors like us who did not want to cook! Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend a visit, it was only the weather that let us down.
Janet & Andy - 24th-26th March 2006

Fantastic cottage, perfect for a weekend away. never been to Cornwall before but will definitely be coming back again! Went to Padstow and had a fantastic 31/2 hours lunch in Rick Stein's Seafood Restuarant, then onto Port Isaac and Newquay for some lovely but blustery sea walks!! Found the accommodation excellent and am looking forward to coming again in the summer!!
Clare, Stephanie and two friends 17-19 March 2006

Lovely relaxing cottage, friendly village - we had lots of fun depsite the weather! Cornwall is an amazing, rugged but beautiful place, offering a bit of everything to all who visit. V. impressed by local pubs and restaurants, particularly the Mill House Inn - excellent food and cosy atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back!
Olivia, Allyson and Mary 10-13 March 2006

Lovely cottage - cosy and incredibly well equipped! Although with two inches of snow outside and the upstairs heater on the blink it did take us a while to warm up! Great position for lots of sight seeing - particularly liked an afternoon on the terrace of the Rock Inn overlooking Padstowe in the early spring sunshine. Only disappointment was the evening at Rick Steins - pretentious and overpriced food of a not particularly high standard. Won't be going there again, but will certainly be coming back to Ruby Cottage - hopefully when it is a bit warmer!
